focusing on the theatrical process

New Voices is a Completely Different Theatre Experience

We focus on the theatrical process, giving all members of the ensemble (actors, designers, technicians, etc.) the opportunity to delve deep into a play and experiment with different ways of staging, developing character, and conveying meaning so they have complete creative ownership of the finished product.  This approach is where the magic happens, creating an end result that is more authentic, nuanced and enjoyable for the entire cast and crew and, ultimately, the audience.

Aesop gets an update in Tales from the Wild: A Moral Masquerade, New Voices’ adaptation of modern-day fables from the witty – and sometimes ominous – book The Lion and the Aardvark.

A mother feline struggles with moderating her use of contemporary gadgetry. A CAFO threatens a coyote’s job security. A talking corpse sacrifices salvation for notoriety. Beavers, tigers, and Minotaurs mingle with pigeons, ghosts, and unicorns as New Voices tries to answer the question: does the world really need fables anymore?

Adapted and brought to the stage by a diverse group of theatre practitioners, these stories ponder whether, in today’s modern world of technology, toxic fame, and me-first attitudes, the need for moral clarity – or at least moral introspection – remains.
